Rev. Karen Harris-Scott is a native New Yorker. She is a licensed social worker earning her master’s degree from Yeshiva University, Wurzweiler School of Social Work. Karen has extensive experience providing services in an institutional medical model setting to HIV/AIDS, Mentally Ill, as well as End Stage Renal Disease, Huntington Disease and the homeless populations, with Arch Care Health Systems. She counseled individuals, families, and groups of people suffering with coping inabilities.
Over the years, Karen has served the impoverished in the South Bronx, which is her hometown, by forming and organizing Pro-Bono services with counseling, teaching, and referring the community to educational and job avenues, computer training, resume building, and anything that was within her expertise. Her professionalism demonstrates the true meaning of excellence. Karen was also an entrepreneur owning and operating a small business before deciding to pursue her dream and vision to establish WUAWSU Project Inc. Transitional Living Program for Youth.
Karen’s’ passion to provide healing for the wounded was nurtured in obscurity from an eager helpful teenager to the present. She is always willing to sacrifice and service others. Her pursuit to help hurting individuals pushed her into the public to become an advocate and an activist as she emerged to become a change agent. Karen is the proud recipient of a Certificate of Merit from the Bronx Borough President in 2018, and the recipient of Community Service Award for Outstanding Service to Humanity from the 31st National Black Nurses Day in 2019. On October 29, 2022, Karen was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel, under the Bishop Dr. Timothy Birkett.
In 2015, Karen Harris founded The WUAWSU Project, Inc. A 501c3 non-profit organization that is a Transitional Living Program designed to provide housing and supportive services for females ages 16 to 21 years old. WUAWSU means “Watch Us As We Step Up”. The message of the project’s name is achieved through an evolutionary process of personal development by offering safe accommodations for refined holistic wellness, which includes education, encouragement and empowerment.
WUAWSU Project, Inc. was incorporated to rebuild broken, beaten and bruised female youth and restore them to become independently ready to thrive within the community. This regenerative process offers a retained benefit, immediately to the recovered individual with a dividend that is paid forward into future generations, because life matters.
Rev. Karen Harris- Scott's belief is that the standards of which we live our lives, illustrates a clear depiction of our attributes to society.
